The Impact of Turbulence in International Financial Markets on the Economic Situation in Poland, National Bank of Poland's scientific seminar, 4 October 2007, Warsaw

The recent financial turmoil all over the world and the volatile behaviour of the property market in the United States cause anxiety also in Poland. A number of economists and people involved in economic activity pose the questions whether, firstly: turbulences may spread to the Polish market, secondly: how strong can their possible impact on the Polish economy be and thirdly: can they be possibly avoided? These are phenomena which on the one hand can have a significant impact on the economic climate in Poland and, on the other, can influence decision-making within the scope of financial policy. The National Bank of Poland realizing the importance of the above-mentioned issues organized on 4 October 2007 an scientific seminar entitled "The impact of turbulence in international financial markets on the economic situation in Poland" with the participation of a number of experts, who aimed at explaining these phenomena and attempted to identify possible means of safeguarding against them. Below, we present texts based on contributions to the seminar.
