Bank Lending Conditions and Lending Relationships - Analysis of the Polish Market

The aim of this paper is to identify those factors, which have a significant impact on access to credit and credit conditions for non-financial corporations. Empirical results have shown that in Poland, similarly to other European Union countries, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) encounter more difficulties and obstacles in the access to credit than large firms. Furthermore, the paper confirms the significant impact of the banking environment and the age, profitability and liquidity of a given firm on access to credit. The analysis presented in this paper is based on yearly data concerning non-financial corporations (F01 CSO), survey data gathered by the NBP, and the statistics of Polish commercial banks.

Keywords: access to credit, credit market condition of the corporate sector, banking relationships.
