Administered prices in selected countries of Central and Eastern Europe and in the European Union
The aim of this article is to characterise and compare the scope and weight of administered prices in the CPI in selected countries of Central and Eastern Europe and in the European Union. Since the category of administered prices is separated in the CPI to a degree as a matter of convention according to the pricing mechanism, its scope varies from country to country. The comparison has shown that the weight of controlled prices in the CPI varies in individual countries and in 2003 it amounted from 27% in Poland to almost 34% in Hungary. Such a huge difference stems foremost from the fact that the weight of excise goods in Hungary is significantly greater than in other surveyed countries. Moreover, in all the non-EU countries examined, this weight is greater than that in the EU.
