Jacek Kulawik Bank opinions on credit interventionism in agribusiness
Condition, instruments, forms and results of public authorities interventions in functioning of agricultural and rural financial markets may be evaluate on different levels. Thie article is focused solely on opinions and views of banks that are involved in credit programmes for Polish agricultural sector. Information was gathered on the basis of questionnaire and reflect the situation in the mid-1998. The research was based on answers received from sixty-three cooperative banks, eighty-two BGŻ branches and regional banks, and 30 other banks, mainly commercial, which had agreements directly signed with the Agriculture Restructuring and Modernisation Agency. The conditions, goals, and effects of credit interventionism were a subject of detailed analysis. Next step was to prepare a simplified balance of participating banks profits and costs. The following part of the article contains comments on main aspects of evaluation of cooperation between banks and Agriculture Restructuring and Modernisation Agency. The whole considerations are ended with analysis of possibilities and conditions of rationalisation in ongoing credit interventionism policy in agriculture business.
