The article analyses changes in the cost structure of the consolidated balance sheet of the banking sector in Poland. Particular attention is put on changes in the volume of claims on public and private businesses in 1993-1997. Also macroeconomic prerequisites of further development of the lending activity offered to the corporate sector have been presented.
